Have you tried booting into safe mode? Press the F8 function key every second or so while the laptop boots. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. Go to Control Panel and choose Recovery. Follow the prompts.
If this doesn't work, it may be better to choose the option in safe mode to fix or repair startup problems.
