RUN COMMAND DOESN'T WORK

I would appreciate any help from you experts out there.

After I click the START button, I do see the run command, when I click it the RUN box appears.  The problem starts after I enter a command like REGEDIT.  When I press enter the black dos box appears for a split second and then disappears.  I can go to the DOS prompt and get the regedit command to work that way but, something is wrong with the run command on the start menu.  Anyone have any ideas how I can fix it?

Make sure the RUN option is selected:  Right-click the taskbar (blue bar at bottom of screen) choose properties -> Start Menu tab -> Customize -> Advanced: then make sure there is a check mark next to Run command.  (above is assuming you are using the XP start menu) It is slightly different if you are using the Classic start menu.

Right click on the task bar and select Task Manager. If it also opens and then closes, that pretty indicative of a virus. Try a couple online scans at such places as:

    TrendMicro Housecall
    Panda ActiveScan
    Symantec Security Check
    CA eTrust AV WebScanner

See if this works. In the Run box type cmd for command. This should bring up the black dos command box. Then type your command.
