Service Tag is not supported.

My brand new Vostro 3460 came with no installation disk, so I had to find drivers manually, partially on Dell website. This is fine as I prefer downloading latest drivers from the web instead of using the outdated ones on the CD. Although, it seems that Dell does not care much about the support they provide as the driver page remains without updates for 90+ days, while newer drivers can be found elsewhere (nVidia site for instance). Considering Vostro 3460 is a newer model this is utterly disappointing.

However, the main issue arises when it comes to downloading the bits of software the laptop should be entitled to. Digitalpersona fingerprint is one of them, as this model comes with built-in biometric validity sensor which cannot be used unless this piece is installed. It seems that the only place the software can be downloaded from is "My DELL Downloads" page, but when I try to register the system on smartsource.dell.com it gives "Service Tag is not supported." message.

On My DELL Downloads we can see another message that says: "GET SOFTWARE QUICKLY WITHOUT THE PILES OF PACKAGING. REALLY. IT'S THAT EASY". So, if "IT'S THAT EASY", then I would like to receive the software that is required to use the validity sensor as soon as possible please.

The drivers may be obtained from the Dell FTP Website. Drivers and Downloads is a bit up in the air and is being worked on.

Most of the older files for Vostro 3460 that were added in June are now dated 22/10/2012 and became unavailable: "Sorry, the requested file could not be downloaded." Is that a joke? Great support I must admit.

Fair enough, thanks for this bit of information. Any idea how can I obtain fingerprint software for Validity sensor, or Dell implies that we have to look for it elsewhere?
