I got the Express Upgrade in March, and I tried upgrading to Vista, but the Bluescreen Of Death came up on last bootup, and I had previously asked here and they said, that it got stuck on a file and recommended a clean install, but I never did it. I instead just backed up and recovered using ALT-F10, in hopes the upgrade would work, but I didn't have time to try it, and now I want to upgrade but I don't know if I should, or if I should just do a Clean Install. There is no compelling reason to upgrade. XP will be supported for the foreseeable future. On the other hand, if you just want to upgrade, a clean install is the recommended way to go. My own opinion is to leave well enough alone if all is working well for you now.
You would be better off having 2GB of RAM to begin with.
Check if your BIOS is up to date.
There were issues with IMSM,chipset & BSOD. You could chek out on the Drivers & Down load for your system.
Above mentioned were the problems on the computers sold in Jan to March 2007 computers. The transition period for XP MCE SP-2 to VISTA [with offers of option for vista upgrades]
Though 1GB of RAM is oOKied by vista, the general concensus is that 2GB is what make vista worth the upgrade.
You will be better off with XP MCE SP-2 for the present system of yours,I feel.
