The upgrade site is back up. It's been over 4 weeks since my purchase and it still doesn't recognize my service tag. I think I can speak for everyone... we are dumbfounded. Does Dell even use IT technology to process the orders? Let's see, I check the little box for the upgrade, I submit my order, and my service tag gets entered into a database of eligible systems with all my customer info, right? Even if Dell has outsourced this, surely they run a daily or weekly load process. Makes me think Dell is writing our service tags on sticky notes and someone opened the window and blew them all over the floor. Mine must be stuck under a chair or something. sheesh.
Yes, I know, I've got my numbers to call and waste away my time tracking this down.
btw, to the developers managing the upgrade site, after all your testing over the past couple of days you've got a javascript error on page load when it tries to set focus to the text box. Here, let me help you, it's right here.....
function setfocus()
{
document.getElementById('" + LnkOrderStatus.ClientID + "').focus();
}
I purchased my computer back in Dec. 2006. I have tried everything they have asked me to do, (from Dell, to the vista dept. to Microsoft) since the Jan. 9th and I have not gotten any results either. I am getting very frustrated with Dell/Microsoft for making us believe that we would have an upgrade to wind. Vista in Jan., and we still have not. The website to upgrade is a joke, these guys are supposed to be on leading edge of technology, and they can't even keep track of some of the computers that were purchased after Oct. 2006. Oh, well. I can't even say that I hate or love vistaupgrade, because I can't get it.
:smileymad:I am in the same boat. Now the web site works, and finally as of today recognizes my service tag-but now when I get to the confirm order page it says: Our records indicate the entered Certificate of Authenticity has previously been used for upgrade. If you need assistance please
Contact Us.
The Vista number is not even ringing. I have been on Dell Customer support and they have escalated me to there high tier manager. Boy I feel important. Dell and Microsoft are a bunch of crooks. I should have stayed with my HP.
Unfortunately in the world of online... there are scammers, theifs and hackers.. (I'm sure there is also a million other names and titles)... They (dell and MS) are doing what they can (I'm sure) to ensure they keep the people who aren't supposed to get the upgrade from getting it while trying to accomodate those who are...
I personally was 100% for the past 48 hours that I couldn't access the web site... now that it's up and running, I was able to get it ordered...
the stupid part I don't like when ordering from dell... when you call and speak with a sales rep... all they are doing is placing an "ONLINE ORDER" in your name for you... They have the same order page you see... (I'm sure they get a couple extra options and such) but if it's not available to you for some reason, then it's not for them as well..
As for it saying you have already ordered the upgrade, I think it's probably a system glitch or one of those "nice guys" mentioned at the beginning of my post, already used your code to register! either way, I'm sure it'll get worked out, in time... just s waiting... Heck you might be able to give them a hard enough time to get FREE shipping for the headache...?
