stumped

Here is my story sad but true. My daughter has a dimension 2300 with home Xp. She tried to delete something she downloaded and now we can't get windows to open. Child can not remember what she deleted. When we start up computer it shows it logging on then logs off right away. We can click on the options where it asks for password which she chose not to use. So can't even try that. Now another problem with all of this is we are selling our house and all her disks that came with the computer are buried somewhere in storage. Just wondering if there is any way we can dowload something that can help. Not as computer literate as the rest of you but any help will be greatly appreciated. If we have to wipe out computer and start over is fine. Just trying to avoid that storage search.

    sugarbutt,

Without an XP CD there is very little you can do. There is no download which will replace it. In the event her account is corrupted, you may be able to log on as System Administrator. If so, you can create a new account for your daughter (and if it work, delete her existing account).

Boot to Safe Mode (start tapping F8 when the computer starts then select Safe Mode from the menu). At the Welcome Screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice. At the logon screen which appears enter Adminstrator as the user name and leave the password blank. See if you are able to log on. If so, go to Start|Control Panel|User Accounts and create a new administrator account. Restart and see if you are able to log on to Windows normally with that account.

Thank you so much for the reply. We tried what you suggested and it didn't work. So we will be heading to storage to find the box with the disks we need. Just wanted to thank you for the help.
