System is not booting
Hi ,
This is naveen from India.
2months back i purchased Dell Inspirion TM-6400. At the time of ordering by mistake we ordered the system with Windows-XP(Chinese version). Later we reinstalled the Windows-XP English version and it functioned properly.
Yesterday i tried to update the Windows-XP (English version), after that system is not booting at all.
When i power on i am getting some chinese messages and waiting for a KeyPresss or 30seconds time. Once any of the event happened again it shows the same message. I can't read chinese, so i can't tell exactly what i am getting.
But finally system is not booting. I tried to boot the system with the Windows-XP OS CD also, but not succeded.
I would be very thankful if any one helps on this.

Hi dunedin,
1. Does it always boot to the desktop and then you get the Chinese message? - Yes
2. What is the key press it is asking for? - Any key press
3. What happens after 30 seconds? Does it reboot? Does it shut down? - It reboots & again displays the same Chinese Msg
I have 100GB Harddisk with only one system partition. Actually i want to split this into multiple partitions & install Linux along with Windows Xp. I am not sure how to create multiple partitions, so to create multiple partitions i did "format" when system is running, but "format" is failed. After that onwards system is not booting.

Naveen,You can`t partition your system drive with XP. You would need to buy a 3rd party program like Partition Magic. What you did has probably damaged the system.The best thing for you to do would be to start over and reinstall XP. During the installation you will get the option to make as many partitions as you want. Just be sure to make the partition for XP at least 8-10GB as it will grow over time as you use the system.Here are good tutorials which show you how to reinstall and create the partitions.186

After re-installing it is booting properly, but i am not able to play any Audio file.To listen sound am i need to configure the sound device hardware?.Thanks dunedin for u r valueble suggestion.186

Yes.
Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager.
Click on the + at Sound Card or Sound and see what is reported. You might have to look for an updated driver for your soundcard.
