The page cannot be displayed.... cannot find server.....please help!

If anyone out there can help me it would be greatly appreciated since I don't have the funds to get my answer from Dell.   The following message pops up after I turn my computer on.  The Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect Driver could not be loaded.  Your systen is not protected from viruses.  Please restart your computer.  No matter how many times I restart, the message still appears.  Once I am on the internet I cannot login to any sites for banking or such.  When I try I get the message that the page cannot be displayed.  I'm desperate.  Thanks.......Bill...

    Willymack,

Me thinks you have a bug. Got a Toshiba laptop beside me that developed the exact same problem today. It's clean now. You have a very vicious spyware bug that is disabling your Norton Auto Protect.
Download, install, update and scan with the following:
From www.download.com you can get AdAwareSE and Spybot Search and Destroy1.4.
From www.microsoft.com you can get Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta.
From http://dl23.pctools.com/downloads/sdinstall you can get Spyware Doctor.

Get Spyware Doctor first.  If you are unable to get on the Internet at all,do the following.
Restart your computer. Before Windows starts loading, press F8 for advanced options. Select Safe Mode with Networking.  If you still can't get on the Internet, click on Start|Run. Type msconfig in the space provided and press Enter or click on OK. On the General Tab, uncheck the Startup group and apply your changes.  Restart your computer again. Press F8 and select Safe Mode with Networking.

You should be able to get on the Internet to download and install the above programs.

Let us know how you fare, and what you find.

You did not specify if you have an internet connection to that system. If not, go into your internet settings, and choose Never dial a connection If it is active on Always dial my default connection. Otherwise you'll get a pop up everytime to connect if one is not present, and therefore cause that error with Norton (it is looking for a connection). Then Manually disable Norton, and you should be fine until you connect and get the updates, or if the AV program is out of date, it is much easier to uninstall it!

Yea!  X-Rogue (aka Jenny) has learned how to spell Wizardry!

Will fix other post when I get back tonight.

    Bill,

See this from Norton on the error message
Then follow up with Tony`s wise advice.
