Thanks for your reply....I will wait I think I have till march to ugrade with the new M1210....Do you think the M1210 is a good unit? The upgraded video card I ordered is the only thing now that worries me..after studying this forum I guess its the only card that will ever be available due to the fact its soldered to the mother board...I like the small size because I use it in my service van alot 17" is kinda big but...I think I might go to the M1710

I've purchased 6 Dells in the last 7 years and would not consider buying anywhere else.  I work with Dells and really raise a fuss when Uncle buys something else, especially HP or Gateway.

Wait unti Vista is commercially available.  What you see right now are the hard core people upgrading and working the issues.  What you see as confusion is actuially good as probelms are being resolved.

Vista is not available right now on any system, Dell or anyone elses, but with newer system purchases,  you can get the upgrade coupon, and when it comes out, you can redeem the coupon.  Or if you want it already installed on a system, you will have to wait until the computer manufactures, such as Dell tests the operating systems, than releasing them.  No date given, but fairly soon.

    Hello,

I bought an HP dv8210 from BB and thier (HP) x64 support is rotten, as in non-existent.  Stick with the Dell.  I was very please to open my new E521 with AMD 64 +5000 to find the drivers and support for 64-bit computing on the dell support pages.  I loaded x64 Pro and it is rocking.  I am very satisfied with XP x64 Pro and may not even go with Vista, it is a little "dumbed down" to me the way they have removed so many of the minute features and personalized options with menu bars and buttons, everything has its own window now, in a world of "popup weary" users, the new OS is riddled with them.  Dont' get me started on the digitally signed drivers or the "every click gets you a 'permissions' dialog" situations with RC1 (I hope this has been fine-tuned in later releases.)

Anyhow, the Dell support for Vista I am sure will be good, at least better then the HP support for anything outside of HP.  Then again, HP has alway been that way.  for $700.00 after rebates, the 17 inch ultrabright display, and the additional HDD bay in the dv8000 notebooks, I could not refuse.

Support is never what you expect, nowadays, expecially when you are sent overseas 80% of the time, still, they are getting better.

Trane151, I replied to your question about my experiece with my M1210 here.  I would not shy away from Dell.  I've used them for seven years, probably a dozen or more systems personally, and they're all we use at work (1,800 servers).  The quality of support is very good, replacement and warranty work is usually next day.  Nothing but good experiences.

    Thanks,
    Chris
