What is OBEX

I have been shopping new cell phones and have been reading where people talk about enabling OBEX.  What exactly is it and what will it allow me to do?

Thanks

Basically, it allows you to transfer files back and forth, like pictures or ringtones.

NOTE - some companies, like VerizonWireless, CRIPPLE their phones so you CANNOT transfer via Bluetooth.  For example, my Razr was NOT supposed to have this capability, but VZW messed up and it does.  So, they issued a firmware upgrade that fixes issues and also removes the capability.  Needless to say I haven't updated my firmware.

I have seen some info online about how to enable this on the Verzon phones.  Is doing this safe?  Will it disable any functions on the verizon service?

    Thanks

I suggest you read some more.  HACKING is what you are referring to, and if you disable the phone in doing so Verizon will not repair it under warranty.
