Win XP Administrator

I'm the only one who uses my new Dell and WinXP is my operating system. Is there any way I can get rid of this "Administrator" nonsense and not have to use the special "LogOn" screen every time I "wake up" my computer?

    Marjie,

What state are you "waking" your computer from, a screen saver or Standby/Hibernate? If you are waking from a screen saver open the Display properties and on the screen saver tab uncheck "On resume, display Welcome screen." If you are the only account on the system you can bypass the Welcome screen by going to Start|Run, typing control userpasswords2 and clicking OK. On the screen that open uncheck "Users must enter a name and password to use this computer." A screen will open which will allow you to enter the default account name and password to be used on bootup. You will then boot directly to the desktop.

    Hi,

Try going into Control Panel > Display > Screen Saver.  Uncheck the box that says "On resume, password protect"

That will disable the logon screen each time your computer comes back from the screen saver or stand by mode.

Whoops...never mind...those are the exact steps given above!  Sorry!  :-)

Thank you for the replies. I do not use a screensaver so I would like to try the Control Userpasswords2 trick. Before I do this (and knowing how badly I can goof up a computer in mere seconds), do I just enter my own name and make up a password? Right now the User Accounts show an Administrator and myself, and frankly, I can't remember if I designated a password for the Adminstrator or not, or even why it shows two users in the "Administrators" group as this is a personal computer.

Sorry to bother y'all further but I do not want to lock myself out of my own computer! Thanks for the help.
