Windows Aero?
Well, I have Windows Vista Home Basic and a little while ago I noticed that I could no longer change the transparency or color of my windows. I did a little research and found out I needed something called Windows Aero. I did a little more looking around and one person said the computer had to have a rating of 3.0 or higher and mine was a 3.8 and so I was very confused. Upon looking on this site, it said Windows Basic could not get Windows Aero. The thing is, I am pretty angry at this.
Why in the world would you take something away and then not let everyone be able to do it. I hated Vista already, and now I hate it and Microsoft even more. Seriously, this is a low blow. I have to pay over $100.00 to upgrade to the next package to be able to change the color of MY WINDOWS. I don't care about anything else, but when it took away the ability to customize my computer I lost my faith in this company.
Maybe someone on here can give me a little help and redeem my faith in this place.

Actually Aero came with Vista; below is the discussion from Microsoft's website

Aero comes with SOME versions of VIsta - the Basic version, not among them. You need Home Premium or Business (or Ultimate or Enterprise).

Vista does have AERO but not in the Vista Basic or Starter editon , AERO is in all Vista versions from Home Premium UP !

You didn't say what system this is, or what video card you use. If your system uses an nvidia video card, all nVidia drivers since ~2004 have allowed you to set and change the transparency of windows, even with XP.
If you have an nvidia card, open the Control Panel or their Desktop Manager and look for the options to change these settings.

Aero is not part of Vista basic. It was not taken away. If you could change colors before, you can still do it, but you will not be able to use transparency . You might have changed your video driver or some other display setting like themes. Look it up in Windows Help. And this is not Microsoft. Dell has nothing to do with the features in Windows versions. It's not worth upgrading just to get Aero. It mostly fancy visuals that you don't need.
