Windows XP Mode

I installed Windows XP Mode software on Windows 7 64Bit laptop and it doesn't show up on the desktop but does under Installed Programs. I tried re-installing it with the same results. I have installed this before on other identical systems but was successful each previous time. What could be the problem?

It doesn't, by default, put anything on the Desktop.

First, install Windows XP Mode (Step 2)
Second, install Windows Virtual PC (Step 3)
Third, if not running SP1, install the update on Step 4

Once you have installed these, rebooting when prompted, go to Start, All Programs, Windows Virtual PC, and click on Windows XP Mode to set it up.

If that is the case (version changed to Home), you would see an error message about the version you are running ONLY when attempting to run XP Mode to set it up, as it will actually install just fine.  It allows you to install it (but not run it) so that if you opt to do an Anytime Upgrade to Pro, it is already to go.

If that doesn't work, make sure the user did not change the operating system to Home Premium. XP Mode only installs on Pro version or better.
