I am trying to install windows XP professional (with SP1) on a L400.

The laptop was previously running NT4.0.

The winxp setup boots fine, copies the driver files into memory, and then says 'setup is starting windows' the cd-rom then spins down and it just sits there forever.

I have tried waiting 2 hours but it never changed. pressing any keys does nothing...

There is no additional hardware plugged into the laptop other than the cdrom drive.

I have also tried f/disking and formatting the hard disk with fat32. no change though...

The laptop has been flashed with the latest (A09) bios. bios settings seem normal - but I cant think of anything that would cause this in any case...

Does anyone have any ideas? this is driving me nuts!
