Cant boot into windows after addition of new hard drive
I installed a hard drive into my system. When I loaded up it said no bootable devices found. I was able to manually select it and it booted just fine but it wouldnt boot automatically. I started getting annoyed that I had to press f12 and select it every time. I tried changing to boot order and removing the disk from the list. None of which worked. What do I do?

Ok this is very odd. As a last resort i tried removing it from the boot list again. It wasnt working before and actually cloned the drive name to the ssd forcing me to mess eith the sata cables. But all of the sudden it's working. I am honestly so confused as that never fixed the problem and always made it worse. But I guess it just decided to work. My problem is solved for the time being. I just hope it doesnt clone the drive name. What will happen is it will boot up successfully I'll turn it off and back on and it will basically give the ssd the hard drives name and wipe it which is why i was very scared of doing it. But I had 2 successful boots so I think im fine.

What model computer and operating system? That info should be included when asking a question.

Its a dell optiplex 790sff running windows 10.

You might have to give a few more details.
How did windows get on the new drive? Tell us how you did that. Did you clone or image the original drive? Then remove the old drive?
What do things look like in disk management? Are any drives listed as being offline?
What type of drive is the old and new?
If you changed anything in the bios, tell it.
Are there any error messages, or just blank screen when you try to boot?

Sorry messed up the post. I meant I added another hard drive on top of the ssd in my computer. The ssd has the operating system. It wont boot into the ssd automatically with the addition of the new hard drive. The hard drive is kind of old and I completely formatted it. I have not made any changes in the bios. When I boot it says no bootable devices found.

From a command prompt, execute diskpart. Then list disk. Figure out which of the drives listed is the old drive. Then, Sel (disk number). Then, Clean. Everything on the drive will be gone. reboot.
Now there won't be any info on that disk, so the problem will be gone. You can now create new partitions on it and format them and use them normally, if you want to keep the drive and use it for storage.

As a test, unplug the sata cable from the drive to the motherboard. Reboot. Does the problem still exist without the drive connected?

Yes disconnecting the sata fixes the problem. However when I plug it back in it boots up fine the first time then the problem comes back upon reboot.

I'm not sure whats happening, but as last resort, check if the cmos battery might need replacing, and while it's out, the bios will reset. It should read at least 3 volts.
I'm running out of ideas, but will try to help if I can.

I don't believe it is a cmos issue (I see no signs of it.) But if it was I sadly don't have a multimeter to test it. Something that might be helpful is that I used the sata connector from my optical drive to hook up my main ssd. The hard drive is using the proper sata cable.
