How do I get my local power settings to work when vworkspace is connected and running?

When vWorkspace is up and running in full screen my local power settings don't kick in. If I minimize the vWorkspace screen then the power settings happen as planned. However, this is a security issue for me since users will not remember (or shouldn't have to) to minimize vWorkspace and hence the local power settings will never kick in and screens will never change to sleep mode etc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
