Dell Inspiron 15 3530 Battery Failed as a Power Source — Problem Began During Warranty Period

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3530 (Intel i7-1355U, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD) on January 26, 2025.

The battery problem began during the first year of ownership. In December 2025, I noticed that the battery could no longer charge to 100% and was showing approximately 93% maximum charge.

However, the important issue is that the battery was already essentially non-functional as a power source, even when it was showing approximately 93% charge. When the AC adapter was disconnected, the laptop could not reliably start and operate from the battery.

Because I normally used the laptop at home while connected to AC power, I initially did not realize the seriousness of the problem. The laptop worked normally while plugged in, and I therefore did not immediately recognize that the battery had already lost its ability to provide usable power.

I was also in China at the time and had difficulty contacting Dell Support because of network restrictions.

After returning to the U.S., I discovered that the battery condition had continued to deteriorate. The reported maximum charge declined from approximately 93% to 90% and eventually to approximately 63% as of September 30, 2026.

More importantly, the battery cannot provide power to the laptop independently of the AC adapter. The laptop requires a direct connection to the power cord to operate.

Therefore, this is not simply a case of reduced battery capacity or shorter battery life. The battery has effectively failed as a usable power source, even though the system may still report a percentage charge.

The progression I observed was approximately:

93% maximum charge → 90% → 63% → unable to power the laptop without AC

I contacted Dell Customer Support approximately one week after the one-year warranty expired and explained that the battery problem had already become apparent during the warranty period. Dell nevertheless declined to replace the battery.

I understand that warranty terms have expiration dates. My concern is that this was not a battery problem that suddenly appeared after the warranty expired. The battery had already demonstrated a serious functional problem during the warranty period, and its condition subsequently deteriorated further.

My family and I have been loyal Dell customers for more than 30 years, and we have purchased numerous Dell laptops, desktops, and other Dell products.

I am therefore asking Dell Customer Care or an escalation team to review the complete history and progression of this battery failure, rather than considering only the date when I contacted Support.

I am asking Dell to consider a goodwill warranty accommodation and provide a replacement battery. I would even be willing to install the replacement battery myself, eliminating Dell's technician/service cost.
