Tap F2 as soon as you reboot without waiting for any screen to see if you can catch the timing correctly.

If you are trying to change boot options you must Tap F12 instead to get to the boot menu. No need to tamper with the bios.

No BIOS access.

I need to set up a system password on boot, which is why I want to access the BIOS.

I don't think BIOS is corrupted. 1.0.7 had the exact same problem as 1.0.8 which I updated this morning.

I would suggest:

If you think your BIOS is corrupted I would try the BIOS recovery method and get to the recovery page.

You can find more info on the web. Keep in mind that your settings may change..

Make sure your monitor works ok.

1. Restart the computer.

2. Press and hold the CTRL key + ESC key on the keyboard until the BIOS Recovery page appears

Try tapping F12 a few times, but you have to be quick.

2. Type in "advanced startup" in the search bar, bottom left of screen, go to "restart now", then "troubleshoot", then "advanced options" then "UEFI settings."  It should take you to BIOs.

I cleared CMOS (removed the battery for 10 mins): no change.

I tried to access UEFI through Windows: all I get is a blank screen and a freeze.

There is definitely an anomaly with the R10 BIOS but I think I am about to give up. I don't want to mess up my configuration.

My system is brand new, which is all the more frustrating.

You can also do it from f12.  If you can get to f12, then there's other options, bios setup, although it may result in more of the same. 

You might consider something like bitlocker to encrypt your drive if you have 10 pro.  You usually should be able to reset a bios password by either clearing CMOS or using the mobo jumper.
