Aurora R10, CPU clock speeds/temps go crazy when doing light work
So I bought myself an Alienware Aurora R10 with a Ryzen 9 5900x and a RTX 3090 around the same time last year.
And the problem started right away when I first booted it up.
The CPU just clocks up very high for a few seconds (4 - 4.8Ghz) when I open up an application and it idles at around 3.5 - 3.7Ghz (when doing absolutely nothing).
The CPU temps on idle are at 55°C but it can go up to 80°C when opening up an application (as mentioned above).
The task manager shows a CPU usage of
0 - 10 % when the CPU makes these crazy clock speed/ temp jumps when opening Chrome or some other light application.
It really does annoy me because every time I try to open anything up the CPU gets very hot and the fans ramp up. It feels like going crazy when u always hear the noise of the fans ramping up and down again and again and again…when all you want to do is light work (like browsing the web, etc.)!
I explained to Dell Support my situation and I have to say that they treated me really accommodating. Till this day they replaced every single thing on this pc (from CPU/ GPU to mainboard and power supply) and yet there is no solution to my problem in sight.
Now my warranty has expired and I am on my own. I declined the offer to renew it because I don‘t think that there‘s anything left the Support can do for me at this point anymore.
I‘m posting this hear in hope for some suggestions from you guys although I have to say that my hopes are not too high. Please just try to think of a solution or what could cause this kind of problem. I do not have the nerves and the strength anymore to rack my brain over this kind of issue because I did it a whole year already to no avail

Assuming you are liquid cooled . . . did they replace the AIO liquid cooling? If you have a faulty cold plate you will never get a good mount. Are there any other symptoms beside a hot CPU?

The base clock speed for the Ryzen 9 5900X is 3.7 GHz. Perhaps some setting is keeping the processor from running below that 3.7 GHz? You may see clock speed jumps when one core responds to a task. Unfortunately, I am less familiar with AMD processors . . . like 'zero'. Have you tooled around in RyzenMaster or some other AMD processor software?
Idling a 55C seems on the warm side to me, but with that processor on a 120mm radiator cooling solution with a RTX 3090 in the same box . . . not unreasonable.

The CPU clock speed will constantly jump up and down based on load. It does the same thing on my R10. The 5900X is a 12 core 105 Watt TDP processor, when under load the temperature will increase. 80 Celsius does not sound bad under full load with a 120 AIO and the R10 case.
Try downloading Cinebench and run a benchmark to see what the temperature does.
You can set the fan speeds manually with AWCC if the noise bothers you, or change the fans out to known working aftermarket fans. There are only a few options for aftermarket fans.

It depend on where your thermal settings are. Are those balanced, or?
If that not helps, maybe try a old school and little forgotten thingy wich could help.
Turn off power and removed power cable, press and hold 35 seconds power button. open your lovely alienware and remove all the DRAM inside, and push them back. close panel, turn back the cable and wait 5 seconds, then turn it on and see what happends. I dont say this is the solution, but it could be helpful.

No I do not think that they replaced my AIO but even if the cold plate would not make proper contact with the CPU; that would not explain the random clock speed jumps and the high idle frequency...
