new to pc

Hi I'm new to pc first time owning my own pc setup, i currently have a alienware monitor that can go up to 165hz but, can only go up to 144hz is there anything i should do i am currently using a hdmi cord as i have no clue as of what i am doing any help i can get.

    Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

    It maybe that the graphics capability is already at 100%

    The actual refresh rate will depend on the system to which the monitor is connected and on how it is connected.  You will need to supply those details before anyone can answer.
