Hi all, I hope you can lead me down the right path here! In Aug I purchased a 17.3 in Alienware Area-51m R2. Unfortunately, I accidentally cracked the LCD screen. It's not too bad, but it will need to be replaced. While searching for a replacement, I used my service tag to identify a part number for the screen. I came up with a couple of part numbers and I would like to double check which one is the correct one.
74D90 ASSY, LCD,17.3UHD,60H,LT,TB,NG
5TMH8 INFO,SWSI,LCD,17.3,NON-TCH
In doing my research on google, I think it is the 5TMH8 is the correct part number for the screen. This brings me to my second problem. My screen is this one:
391-BFJI: 17.3" UHD (3840 x 2160) 60Hz 2 5ms 500-nits 100% Adobe RGB color gamut + Tobii Eye Tracking technology
When I look for replacement screens, when I search on the 5TMH8, the only replacement screens that I can find are all 1600x900. So my questions are =
1) Am I using the proper part number to get a replacement screen
2) Are there different versions of the 5TMH8?
3) If I can't find the exact screen, will something else work? Maybe a touchscreen, or something fancy? I already have a call in to Alienware service, I am hoping they can fix me up in a jiff, but I am still curious about these questions!
5TMH8 is incorrect. 74D90 is correct but we do not sell it.
74D90 = 44TRN LCD, 17.3" , UHD, HDR400, AUO
You did not purchase the additional, "Premium Support Plus – Accidental Damage Service". So if sent to the Dell repair depot, you will be charged for both the repairs, LCD, and associated parts.
Hi @Airbusiago welcome to this user to user forum.
Go to Dell Support for Alienware Area-51m R2 and click on detect your service tag, or enter your service tag. If the laptop is not working, look on rear panel to get your service tag. When webpage opens, look for product details on laptop information and click on view system information. System Configuration (window within window) appears and there are two options: Original Configuration, Current Configuration. Try to find LCD Screen part number in Original Configuration's drop down selections.
However, we usually go to parts people and enter service tag to get this information. Click on Dell Alienware Area-51m R2 Parts to see what is in their data base. We had a quick look at LCD Display Assembly, but these parts were not in stock. Use your service tag to see if your LED Screen part number is in their database.
Hi what happened to the promise of upgrade screens becoming avaliable. I can find virtually no spares anywhere for the area 51m r2. I bought the top of the range laptop but had to settle for the 144 hz screen. This did not worry me as Dell had said it was intending to release 360 mhz and 4k panels but to date not only are these not obtainable but the original 144 mhz is not avaliable either. It seems as per usual Dell makes promisies that it cannot deliver on and for a laptop at this cost is not good service. This is such a shame I have owned Alienware laptops now for around a decade and love them but you need to make upgrades and spares avaliable.
