MacOS 10.7 (Lion) may cause Data Movers to panic
Hi all
It has come to our attention that even though we have released an ETA on the issue (and redistributed it once as well), sites are still using Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) to access Celerra systems, and in some cases, causing Data Mover panics.
The issue was addressed in Knowledgebase article emc263721. Patched NAS code is available; please check the Knowledgebase article for more information.
If you are using Mac OS in your environment, we strongly encourage you to upgrade to a patched NAS code version as soon as possible.

Bill, originally the Primus pointed at developer releases of MacOS X 10.7 causing the issue. Does this now apply to production releases of 10.7? Do they contain the bug as well?

Sigh. Live and learn, eh? I'm sure I'm going to be unhappy when I figure what Apple did in the SMB stack to cause this issue. It's bad enough that a box running 10.6 could choke up traversing WideLinks or NTFS junctions on Win 2k8; who knows what got lumped into this release!

specifically you want to upgrade to one of the following releases:
- 5.6.51.314 - 320
- 5.6.52.x or higher (when it becomes GA)
- 6.0.40.806 - 811
- 6.0.41.3 or higher
- 7.0.12.100 - 101
- 7.0.13.x or higher (including 7.0.14.x)

Yep and we found out the hard way that the GA or Gold release still had the issue with it and all 4 Celerras went KABOOM. The knowledge based article only stated it was in the developer release, but it made it into the PRD release.
We only found out after 13mths of perfect running then 4 days ago a panic and after dump file analysis it pointed towards this.
All it takes is for a 10.7 client to authenticate to a CIFS share on an un-patched system and it panics the DM
I can provide more infor if anyone wants as we lived thru it all of yesterday

FYI
We did find this problem early in the Lion betas and did ask Apple to change their code – apparently they didn’t.
We have send out an ETA alert to all customers and partners on March 11th and then again on July 14th before 10.7 went GA advising to upgrade the Celerra OS to avoid a panic.

FYI,
Apple released the Mac OS X Lion update 10.7.2 on October 13, 2011 that contains the fix for the issue that panics Data Movers. EMC Engineering has tested the client and server updates and has confirmed that they work. The updates can be obtained at these links:

yep, we have another Celerra on campus that was not patched and guess what ..today somebody installed OSX 10.7 and poof ..datamover panicked. I told them to patch their Celerra ..but some folks know better so now it's an emergency
