Could you please explain me in layman terms as I am new to this environment.

EMC has lab environments where they bring in hardware and software from different vendors to make sure it's compatible with EMC hardware/software. For example they can bring new Brocade fiber channel switches and will set them up in this lab and connect VNX or a VMAX to it to make sure it works properly. Then let's say new firmware comes out for this switch ..they would install it in this lab and run through the same tests to make sure this firmware does not brake anything.
