VM Storage Usage Reporting

I have vSphere v5 deployed on Compellent storage.  I deployed by following the Compellent best practice guide with thick provisioned disks.  My LUNs are 1tb, each with multiple VMs.

I'm trying to get a report of how much real storage each VM is using.  VMWare only shows the thick provisioned size.

I also have the Compellent Enterprise Manager v6.1 and have added vCenter but although I'm able to see the VMs, it only shows disk usage at the Datastore level, which doesn't help me.

I've also installed the Enterprise Manager server agent on a few VM, which allows me to see the OS volume sizes when browsing through the servers view.  But when looking at the storage reports, the VM's all show 0 MB for Configured, Active and Actual.  I'm expecting this report is only reporting on servers that have direct mappings to LUN's in storage Center.  It would be helpful if EM allowed for custom reports and at least reports with into pulled from server agents or vSphere.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can see the real storage usage for VM's that would be helpful.

You are correct as far as the VM storage reports go, must have a LUN mapped in Physical Compatibility Mode so that the server agent sees the volume ID.

Unless VMware opens up VMFS to third parties I don't believe what you're looking for will happen. You need to use thin provisioned disks to see those kinds of numbers (which has its own set of problems)
