I/We have. NetWorker 8.1.0.2 with DD990 running DDOS 5.4.0.8. The main documentation for both NetWorker and Data Domain covers most aspects you will require. 1 key item though. When using DFC name in NetWorker, use the shortname of the DD, not DFC: . Also, no dashes in the Data Domain DNS name but there are ways to trick that if you didn't know ahead of time. Spoken from experience... oops.

as Tim already mentioned you Need Networker 8.1.x to use the DD Boost over FC Feature. In Networker you have to add a datadomain device which can be used for FC or Ethernet. So you have to add two devices if you need to use DD Boost over FC and DD Boost over Ethernet. The wizard in Networker is working very well and you can also configure different groups that can do a fall back on Ethernet if dd boost over FC is not working.

And the DFC Name Thing is the important Information you get The documentation is not correct with this Information and the Data Domain System ist telling the wrong Information itself.

Using aliasing will resolve the dashes in the DNS names. Configure the alias in DNS or local hosts and add the DD in NetWorker NMC with the 'no dash' name. Should address the issue. Sorry for the late response. Only saw this when I was in looking for the article on the EMC Powerpath generic purpose extension disable requirement. Still looking for the again as we have a host that requires last known good recvoery when it gets disabled and restarted, Bummer, FC DFA needs this disabled.

I have a DD4200 with DDOS 5.4.1.1 and several FC adapters connected to windows server.

When I try to connect to DDBoost over FC, I receive error "invalid argument. 5008"

But connection over IP estabilshed succefully.

It looks like DDBoost Library sees devices, but cannot get information about server using them.

Not as of yet. As per the EMC Data Domain Compatibility Guide from March 2015 it is not.

Hi Tim,  thanks for the nice post. Unfortunately there is no clear info  the SAN based backup  & DDBOOST over FC.

In our case,we have win2008 clients  and NSN,  Networker backup server + DD 990. To have DDBoost over FC , please guide if we are doing right stuff :

a) Zone the Clients ( Win2k8) to DD990
b) Zone the NSN( storage node) DD990

c) Create  group  called testsan  in DD and add both initiators and DD end points

d) Add devices to the testsan

e) Configure Networker Client  in NMC --> to use DataDomain interface as "Fibre Channel"

Unfortunately, that is not working for us. Please suggest
