In the GUI the correct IP is showing in the first ipv4 slot and it is checked and community name is correct. I will confirm this info via racadm and use wireshark.

Couple of things to check:

Trap community name are same on the management station and managed node.

Run wireshark and check if the traps are even reaching the management station and getting dropped.

iDRAC6 have two set of SNMP Trap destinations. One for IPv4 and one for IPv6. You can use following racadm group to set the destination.

For IPv4 Destination use cfgIpmiPet and for IPv6 use cfgIpmiPetIPv6. These are indexed group and support upto 4 index.

E.g.

To enable IPv4 Destination 1 use racadm command "racadm config -g cfgIpmiPet -i 1 -o cfgIpmiPetAlertEnable 1"

To set IPv4 Destination 1 address use racadm command "racadm config -g cfgIpmiPet -i 1 -o cfgIpmiPetAlertDestIpAddr "

To view the setting for IPv4 Destination 1 address use racadm command "racadm getconfig -g cfgIpmiPet -i 1"

using wireshark I am able to see the snmp trap traffic from Gen12 DRACs when I run a test but nothing from a Gen11 iDRAC6.

When I check the configs on the iDRAC6 via racadm command I see:

/admin1-> racadm getconfig -g cfgIpmiPet -i 1
# cfgIpmiPetIndex=1
cfgIpmiPetAlertDestIpAddr=10.24.24.3
cfgIpmiPetAlertEnable=1

That's the correct IP and it is enabled.

When trying to confirm the community string via racadm command I looked up in the 1.7 rac commands PDF and see the example acadm getconfig -g cfgTraps -i 2 but it gives me ERROR: Invalid group name specified.

Also I see that you gave me an ipmi  command rather than an snmp command. Are the only alerts to traps from iDRAC6 available over ipmi rather than snmp? If so why are there snmp trap rac commends in the racadm pdf?

What port do the ipmi traps get sent to/from? 

Any pointers on why my iDRAC6 alert tests are not reaching OME would be appreciated :)

It took some time to gather info regarding this issue, hence the delay.

In iDRAC-6 , IPMI PlatformEventTraps(PETs) are supported and SNMP (v1) is being used to send these traps.

Run this racadm command to test the trap:

racadm testtrap -i

The group you are trying here (cfgTraps) is only supported on CMC, hence the error.

Run this command on iDRAC to get the community name :

racadm getconfig -g cfgIpmiLan -o cfgIpmiPetCommunityName

Even IPMI Traps are being sent to default SNMP traps port no. 162.

Still having issues with iDRAC6 not being able to send traps.

Here is an iDRAC6:

has been configured correctly and connectivity to

And here is an iDRAC7:

cfgIpmiPetAlertDestIpAddr=10.24.24.3
cfgIpmiPetAlertEnable=1
/admin1-> racadm getconfig -g cfgIpmiLan -o cfgIpmiPetCommunityName

Test trap sent successfully

Web and ssh connectivity are fine on both from the same network and from the OME server 10.24.24.3 and as you can see 162 is open on OME as traps are received from iDRAC7.

Any hints on how to fix?

iDRAC6 has been restarted and has latest firmware and is discoverable in OME.

Yes it is enabled and yes all are selected. Always has been. 

Can you confirm if this setting is enabled thru' iDRAC 6 GUI (not supported via RACADM):

In the iDRAC GUI, select System->Alerts (tab). Under "Platform Events", "Enable Platform Event Filter Alerts" should be enabled.

Under "Platform Event Filters List", make sure "Generate Alert" checkbox is checked for every alert.

Try sending test traps and check if it works now.

Has there been anything further regarding this error.  I am also getting the same problem.  IDRAC 7 works fine but IDRAC 6 traps are not.  same as Cameron's error.  Please advise.
