Sorry but you we cannot reduce the size of the raidset when converting and can't go from a larger capacity RAID level like 5 to a smaller one like R6.  This has never been supported.

Please check with your Sales consultant about a loaner and/or on-site help with this if you don't have a spare array on hand.

To convert, you need to do the “offline migration method”, i.e., adding a member to the group, then vacating the R5 member, reconfiguring it for R6, add the member back into the group.  As you indicated, you need enough space on the remaining member to hold all the data.  Or have a member in the group that can hold all the data of the R5 member, while you do the conversion.

If you don’t’ have another member, you would need to backup/copy the data off the member, and vacate the member from the group, and reconfigure for R6, then restore your data.

You can save the member configuration and restore the settings (CLI tool, called save-config).  Check out the CLI guide to see what is saved.

I believe you need to connect to the serial/console port of the san and reset the array using 'reset', and then run 'setup' again.

I have a new PS 4100 with no data on it.  I set it up as raid 5 by mistake, and want to change to raid 6.

Because this unit is the only member in the group, the gui won't allow me to delete it in order to

change the raid configuration.  Is there a way to do this from the command line?
