Is the Hard-Disk-Drive spinning-up?
If computer is "still good" I suggest a SSD instead. It's speed will offset the slowness-and-age of the computer. Even a SATA-3/600 2.5inch SSD is like 3-times faster than a HDD. Also, much more reliable.

The error means what it says - your hard drive has failed.
