Latitude E7470 Headset Jack Microphone Static

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can help. With the current situation in the world, I'm attempting to do video calls. I noticed rather quickly that my headset jack microphone couldn't be heard, while the microphone array could. I'll list what I've done below, but the last thing I did was go to the Sound Properties of the Headset Jack Mic and turned on the listen to device option and heard a low level amount of static which coinicides with the rest of the low level of sound I see in the green bar when doing test. Any idea of what it could be? I also noticed that my finger print reader sometimes won't activate after the computer comes up from hibernation/sleep. While I would assume they are different issues, I do see that they are on the same side of the laptop.

Other things I attempted after doing some online researched:

  • Re-installed the driver. (Most recent and it doesn't work.)
  • Made sure they were compatible devices. (Yup. Both Headsets are TRRS as well as the laptop jack)
  • Ran the troubleshooter. (No issues came back.)
  • Checked for physical mute on the headset. (Tested two and one doesn't have that option.)
  • Ran a test to see if Cortana/Laptop could hear me. (Only though the mic array could I be heard.)
  • Made sure that the Jack mic wasn't disabled.
  • Again, I went to Sound properties and listened to both the Mic Array and the Headset Jack, each individually. (The Mic Array, I could hear myself clearly, and the Jack I heard static.)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark
