Help me understand this, please.....

I ordered an Aurora R4 from the Outlet Site last weekend.  They told me it would be delivered by June 15.  I then received an email advising that the shipment would be delayed until June 20.  Fine, I left the state and went to attend the granddaughter's birthday party.  FedEx shows up and tries to deliver on June 13.  My son arranges to pick it up at the FedEx site on June 14.  I arrived at home this evening.  Here is what I ordered:

-- Alienware Aurora Desktop R4
-- 120V Power Cord
-- Label
-- Shipping Material
-- Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
-- 1 TB SATA II Hard Drive (7200RPM)
-- Aurora X79 with ALX Chassis
-- Certified Refurbished
-- 16 GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
-- Optical 2-Button Mouse
-- Placemat
-- Information
-- Software
-- Information
-- Thermal HeatSink
-- Wave Systems Software
-- 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
-- AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
-- Alienware AVATAR 1
-- Alienware TactX Keyboard
-- Shipping Material
-- Information
-- 64BIT Operating System
-- Processor: Intel Core i7-3960 Processor (3.33GHz,6C)
-- 64BIT Operating System
-- 1 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 - NVIDIA SLI Enabled
-- Documentation
-- Save 25% on all Dell Outlet Alienware Dekstop or Laptop with this coupon!
- $549.75
-- Alien Aurora R4: 1 Yr Ltd Warranty, Basic Service after Remote Diagnosis
(Included In Price)

I opened the box but have not removed the system.  It is a standard Aurora case.  When I read the posting to purchase it indicated Aurora X79 with ALX chassis.  The confirmation e-mail with the system specs indicated the same, as noted above in the copied text from the Dell e-mail.  Have I misunderstood?  Did I not actually order the ALX chassis???  Besides this, what is a placemat as referenced in the list above?  I thought that it would likely be the mouse pad, but it didn't include one.

Should I send the system back?  I have an Aurora R1.  Besides the great deal that I got on this system, one of the primary features I was interested in adding was the ALX case.  I'd appreciate any thoughts and/or advice.

Your best bet is to call sales and see if you really did order the ALX. Emails take to long, call them. The clock is ticking.

As far as I know, this is the break-down. Maybe you-all or Chris-M can make this list exactly correct.

    Aurora R4 Aurora R4 ALX
    Mesh Top Motorized Louvers
    Basic Lights Extra Lights (front)
Normal visible HDD Wiring HDD Back-Plane (wiring hidden or not used)
None Interior lighting (via battery pack)

    jb122,

Look at the top of the system. If it doesn't look like this, you got the standard. If so, contact Dell Order Support to correct this.

    jb122, xixi102088,

What is interesting is if you go to the Dell Outlet today and choose Alienware Aurora ALX Desktop, it says, "Sorry. The product you are looking for is currently out of stock. You may want to choose different filter options now, try your search again later, or call 1-888-518-3355 to have a sales representative assist you with your search.".

Even though your online invoice states ALX, if they were actually out of them, the sales team should have called you to say we were shipping the Standard chassis.

I need some information to investigate this. Send me the following via private message -
    Email Address:
    Name:
    Shipping Address:
    Phone Number:
    Computer Service Tag number:
    Order number:
Reason: Two customers ordered the Alienware Aurora ALX from the Dell Outlet. They received the Standard chassis instead of the Alienware Aurora ALX.

xixi - I just returned the system they sent me.  I did send a pm to Chris with the info that he requested.  If you're still under the 14-21 day timeline, you might consider calling them and returning the system.  I hated to return it as I did get a fabulous price, but it just wasn't what I wanted.

If they ask, I usually recommend that people buy the non-ALX model and save some money. The differences are very minor.

I surely don't want to get in the middle of this ... but it sounds to me like a simple typo on the Outlet website.

Tesla, getting the system configured as it was and the ALX chassis at the price point was the deciding factor for me in making the purchase.  When it didn't work out, I just decided to send it back.  I agree that it's likely a posting error in listing the system(s) on the outlet site.  They had 7 pages of R4s when I ordered mine, there were probably 8-10 systems on each page.  Each was listed as having the ALX Chassis.  In processing the return I pointed this out to every person I wound up speaking with and suggested to them that they might want to verify the system configurations or they could wind up with more returns.

Thanks for your input and for your help in the past.  You've responded to my posts before as I've worked on upgrading my R1 and you've always been dead on.

    jb22,

Sure, I understand. Dell seems to having various accuracy problems with their websites lately (both sales and support). Maybe it's because they are so big, or maybe it's all the out-sourcing ... who knows.

And while you were trying to help report the problem (to prevent others from being disappointed) I'm betting it wasn't received the way you would think (I'll stop there).

Glad I could help in the past. I think the Aurora R1's still have plenty of life in them (x58 is pretty killer). Maybe you still have yours in the family somewhere?

I wouldn't mind having a current model highest end Alienware desktop myself. But with the Area-51 being discontinued (general down-sizing of the line) ... I'll likely move to the Precision line or just build my own (more expensive ... but I'll get exactly what I want).
