Sound Problem

Well I think it is a sound problem.

Every now and then when playing a game, the game will pause for a second and make a crackly noise.  I get the same crackly noise when I alt tab etc. sometimes as well.

Realtek High Definition Audio, 5-23-2009, 6.0.1.5859

That's my current sound card, I have tried to update the driver but it says no update is available.  I was thinking about replacing it and buying a new sound card, but I can't seem to find out where it is in the machine.

I use the rear ports for my speakers and I use a USB port for my headphones.  It happens on both.

When you say download the latest dell driver, do you mean the latest motherboard for the aurora?  I currently have the A11 version installed.

If you have an AW Desktop, it's built-in the motherboard.

Try the latest posted Dell driver. Or, uninstall that one completely, and try the one supplied by Microsoft from Windows Update.

Are you using analog or digital (SPDIF)? If analog, are you using the rear ports?

If you connect gaming headphones via USB (as a test), it's like installing a whole new sound-card.

Never a good idea to Alt-Tab out of a full screen Direct-X game ... most games don't handle that gracefully.

Well, that's means it's not the Realtek driver because when you use USB headphones, the machine is using the "sound card" in the headphones (and it's separate drivers).

Check your video card drivers. Be sure it happens on many games and not just one.

It does happen on more than one game and it happens more often with the usb headset.

I always keep my video card drivers up to date with the latest nvidia driver.

    Test like this:

Analog speaker system, plugged into the rear port, headphones completely disconnected.

Headphones, plugged into the back (a USB-2 Port ... not USB-3) ... analog speaker system completely disconnected.

The whole time ... no other USB devices connected except keyboard and mouse ... or at least no devices on either of the USB-3 ports. I'm wondering if your problem is related to the USB problems that some Aurora R-3 owners are reporting. Post your system specs.
