A good system for elderly users?
I have FINALLY convinced my nearly 80 year old parents to replace their old Compaq (circa 1996). Needless to say, they're not much into specs and they definitely hate to spend. They do the usual web surfing, e-mail, household books and correspondence. They have a perfectly ghastly monitor that makes everything on it appear underwater.
Any ideas? I haven't purchased a system in a while, but I like my Dells.

My 76-yr-old father loves his Dimension 2350 and his 19" monitor (CRT), which I think he has set to 800x600.550

Agree, agree, and agree. Get the nicer Multimedia keyboard though, and be a good kid and buy them an optical mouse for $15 or $20.550

Unless they are at least reasonably computer-literate you would probably be better off getting them a new monitor (21-inch is overkill unless they decide to get involved in CAD) and perhaps a new graphics adapter. I would not want to get elderly users a system with Windows XP which can be so different from what they are accustomed to (which would be either Windows 98 or ME).
