Dell E520 not Starting
Hi All, Went on a short vacation, so powered down the computer, turn-off all the other devices (monitor, router, WiFi, printer, etc.) and turned off the power strip. Came home a few days later and all devices turned with no problem with the exception of the computer. The "on/off" switch does nothing when pressed. It does however flash a slow yellow light.
Oh, BTW, this computer went into service in 2007. Nothing has been added/fixed on this computer during the duration.
Thoughts/comments?
Best policy is to unplug the power cord from the back of the computer when leaving for days as well as unplugging the surge protector from the wall. Surge protectors cannot protect 100%. Unplug the computer from the surge protector and plug directly into a known good outlet to test after reseating or changing the power cord. The power supply might have failed if that doesn't work. Check the manual for diagnostic lights codes.
I would take this opportunity to replace the 7 year old computer rather than try to fix it.

A blinking amber power switch LED means the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
This can indicate a bad power supply, as you need a 'known' working power supply to check the motherboard, I would try a different PSU.
The E520 systems do not use a Dell proprietary power supply, you can install most standard ATX power supplies with a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector.
As the E520 has an open back panel, a power supply with or without the on/off switch can be installed.
You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.
Note: You will need a power supply, with four SATA power connectors.
