Device Manager

I get "your system administrator has disabled .....". I have discovered that I do not have a Device Manager. I have no idea how I lost it. How do I reinstall it or find it?

    sgraff,

See if replacing the files listed here restores your Device Manager. You can replace them using System File Checker. Go to Start|Run, type SFC and click OK. Tell SFC to extract one file (at a time) from the installation disk (your Windows CD) and install it in C:\Windows\System.

    sgraf,

What are you opening or trying to do, when you get " your system administrator has disabled .....". ??

What are you doing when you get nwnp32.dll is missing? Does that appear during the boot up ? nwnp32 is a Network Provider for Novell Network.

Open Find FIles and search for Sysdm.cpl . Double Click on it. What happens?

What exactly did you install, remove or reconfigure before this happened?

Do you have a system administrator? I think they can disable things like that like they can do for Msconfig or Regedit. I think as far as I know you'd have to reinstall Windows. Maybe you can possibly download it? If you have a system administrator see if it disabled. -GReg

Here you can download Device Manager for your hand held. I don't know for sure if it will work for your computer or not, because it says for hand held and your a Dimension Desktop. No Gaurentees, but try it if your not afraid it will harm your computer. Here is the sight:

I don't have a system administrator. I have reloaded Windows 98SE with no results. I also get a message that I am missing a dll file nwnp32.dll but I can see it as a folder but find does not see it. If I can recreate or enable the Device Manager, I can enable my display, internet options, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds to me like this computer was purchased or obtained from a company. The IT guys probably set policies not to allow access to device manager. What you need to do is use the system policy editor to change this. I believe you can run this program off the Win98 CD but you should search Google for detailed instructions (search system policy editor).
