Differences in processors?
Hi, I am thinking of a getting a Dell Dimension soon. I am wondering what are the differences in the Pentium D and the Pentium 4 HT. They say both are great for picture and video editing, but is one better than the other, or has any advantage?
The system I am looking at is the E510 with huge savings (which I believe is a good deal). Although I cannot change the processor, I would still be interested in knowing what the differences are, just incase another system would be better (but unlikely).
Thanks for any help!!

- Well, we ordered the E510 with the P4 630 w/HT a few days ago (it was the only option available at the time with $400+ and free shipping). Now today I see they have changed the options to the Pentium D processors still with $400+ and free shipping...darn Dell! :smileysad: I would have probably prefered the Pentium D, just to have the latest technology and make the system not get outdated as quick and to be future proof. I am almost tempted to change the order, but that probably wouldn't be worth the hassle and it would just push the ship date even futher. I'm sure we'll get along just fine with the P4 w/HT. The previous system (5 years old) was 256MB RAM and 1.3GHz P4 and was OK. It was a bit slow at times, but still manageable. It was mostly used for Internet, e-mail, word processing, games (freecell, hearts, solitaire, etc.), picture editing, and video editing a few times.I shouldn't even worry about this; it is my parent's system...not mine, but it is nice to have the latest technologies in a computer when spending that much money.

If you can cancel and get the same thing with a Pentium D I would. Obviously having an entire second CPU is a big benefit.tigerwolf7

ALL recent Pentium 4s run hot. And obviously Dell *provides* an adequate cooling solution with their PCs. Don't worry about cooling (and dual core chips don't draw double the power...)tigerwolf7

Yeah, but that was just the system being assembled wrong. Didn't matter what CPU you had.
