Dimension 8100 Memory Upgrade

My current memory is 128 MB ( 2 * 64) and two slots are empty. Can I add 512 MB ( 2 * 256) in the remaining slots so that my total memory will be 640 MB

Thnx

You can but if you are using Windows ME it only supports uo to 512 MB of RAM.

    Hi,

Better to put the 2x 256 RDRAM modules in the first two slots and put the 2 x 64 modules in the last two.  You are probably aware of this, but the D8100 takes RDRAM ns 45.  Also, check to see if your RAM is PC 800, 700 or 600.  You have to get the same speed of RAM or the memory will run only as fast as the slowest you have in there.  Check your 64MB sticks. Samsung RDRAM has always worked well in the Dell machines.  One more thought.  If your original RAM is less than PC 800, and you would like it to run at that speed, just buy the PC800 and use that alone without your original RAM.

    Good luck,

    Jane
