In response to your post on Dell community, wanted to know what is the error you get on boot up if you can give us the description of the error on boot up we shall further check with it & provide you with the resolution based on the error. And as you mention the system is almost ten years old might be an issue with the hardware. Please provide us with the error message you get on boot up.

How many fans are in the Dell Dimension 4600 desktop? I cleaned out my cpu fan but am still getting fan error on boot up. Can it be the heatsink that may need replaced? Computer is almost ten years old.

If I go into the event log it says CPU 0 out of range.

It gives the black screen on boot up where you choose F1 or F2. If I go into F2 into the event log it says CPU0 out of range.

But the fan is blowing out like normal.

I open the tower and cleaned the entire inside out.  Removed all dust and gunk.

The processor and heatsink are attached propersly.

My temp that it is running at stays between 25 C and 40C

Yes I took the side and front off and cleaned everything out.

Still getting the error.
