No Network Connection
I am installing Windows XP Professional on a new hard drive because the XP install is messed up on my old drive. Everything works fine except my network card doesn't show up on the new install. It is an Intel Pro/100M 10/100 integrated card. I found the driver on the driver cd and extracted that to the C drive, but I can't get the device to show up in device manager. If I put the old drive in I can still see the board and can get a connection. So what I am missing or not doing? Thanks in advance for any help.
- Did you install the chipset drivers as the first drivers installed after reinstallation of Windows? Without the chipset drivers, Windows will not be able to recognize or install drivers for many other devices. Once the chipset drivers are installed you need to install the drivers for your network adapter, video adapter, audio adapter, and modem.Steve
- You can try uninstalling any devices you installed before the chipset drivers were installed, then installing the chipset drivers, and then the other drivers. Sometimes this doesn't work, and it's just easier to start all over, this time installing the drivers in the correct order.All drivers can be found at:Steve

Sometimes this doesn't work, and it's just easier to start all over, this time installing the drivers in the correct order.- I downloaded the Chipset drivers; installed them per Dell's instructions and then tried to install the network driver (10/100) but when I get into hardware devices all it shows under the network connections is that 1394 network controller. I am either missing something or this integrated board is being tempermental when loading the drivers. For some reason, even though I am loading the chipset drivers, it is not loading that particular one? Right now I'm stumped; any suggestions?
- I'm not 100% sure, but am pretty sure. If I put my old drive back in, it shows that as the connection. Also when I stick in the Dell driver cd that is one of the items that it brings up as checked (along with audio and video) that it wants me to install.
