My system sounds work and some Internet video works but Silverlight and some YouTube audio does not work.
On one YouTube video I heard some intro sounds but not the presenter.
This is a new dell 390 win 7 x64. device manager reports Conexant HD Audio and Intel display Audio as OK wit latest drivers.
Control Panel - Sound lists just the Conexant and the test works fine as do the windows sounds.
MP3 sample music works using VLC Media and Windows Media players
ditto for sample video
It seems that if a video has sopken word it does not work - I can hear music only videos via Silverlight/YouTube.
http://channel9.msdn.com/ audio does not work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id3Arzj5PFY works
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEd5EvkFqeI&list=UUtOiaxdcY_6RsRUpBg_2LoQ&feature=plcp doesn't work
problem is consistant over IE, FireFox, and Chrome
Microsoft Silverlight (64-bit)
Version: 5.1.10411.0
Any ideas on how to track down the problem?

The answer turned out to be strange as well - the problem seems to be a particular Logitch Headset (maybe model - I only have one.) I was testing and moved the headset to the rear audio jack and the sound played for a second as the plug was inserted (the internal speeakers always wrrok although very poor quality.) I could pull it part way out and it worked Ok. Must be a problem with wiring of the three connectors on the plugs (or the jack I suppose.)
I can sort of understand the wiring issues but the fact that some audio sources worked and others do not work at all (not just a dropped channel - although the headset could be monaural and one side could be missing I suppose) is very strange.
Bizarre all around...
