pc beep when closing app?

I've got a Dimension E310 w/ 512MB RAM, running windows XP.  I loaded up Windows Media Center.  When I closed it I got a single beep from the PC- not from speakers.  I tried opening Media Center again and was able to duplicate it.
Then, I opened Media Center, opened the pictures menu, started browsing, closed Media Center, and then heard 2 beeps.  Again I tried to repeat it and duplicated the beeps.
They sound like the beeps you here when a component fails during POST test, but this happens well after the PC is booted up.
Does anybody know what the beeps mean?

    If the power supply were failing then wouldn't I hear the beep intermittently?  Instead of just when I close down one specific application?

    Yes, that would be logical but it all depends on what voltage rail is failing.

    I would suspect intermittent low voltage due to a failing power supply. Without the proper tools to check, you may want to use your remaining time surfing for a power supply.

    This might be a good place to start and keep as a reference;

    try this cheap fix: open your case, and blow some pressured air to clean all the dust from inside case and components?? that WILL cool down the box and might stop your beeping noise... really! goodLuck
