The difference is your front side bus speed. You can use 133 in a 100 system, it will just run at 100. I think the PC stands fro Personal Computer, but that is a guess. Go to Crucial.com for any type of memory question here;

At Webopedia, I learned about front side Bus. From BeLarc Advisor I looked under "Main Circuit Board" and read "Bus Clock: 100 megahertz." I'm guessing that this is the front side Bus. And as you suggested, "Crucial" had an explanation for PC100 & PC133.

Apparently, a system can run no faster than its slowest link, so even though a PC133 will operate well when installed along with a PC100, it won't be any faster than the PC100. So, one should buy the (same priced) PC133 to be ready for future upgrades.

Please correct any of the above information. Especially Bus Clock. Is it the FSB.

That brings up a question. My 4300 P4 1600 requires PC133 memory. But the bios and all the information or diag program I have run on it indicate the FSB is running at 100 MHZ.

Can the FSB be set to run at 133 MHZ? or does it only really require PC100 memory?

Is there a way, other than opening the computer case, to discover which type (PC133 or PC100) that was initially installed on my system at the factory?

Thus far I have been able to determine, from my packing slip & a conversation with a Dell sales rep, who said that he knew because of my ser # or tag, that I now have 128MB SDRAM Non-ECC--Which I understand to be the same as Non-Parity.
