300m LCD - major problems

After about a month of receiving my 300m - i had a little problem - A white smiley face had randomly burned itself into my lcd - im not talking about something little, there was a mouth that was about 4" across and two eyes right smack dab in teh middle of the screen. Called Dell and after a lengthy conversation - they sent out a tech to replace teh LCD (thank god for on-site service upgrade). Everything looked great. After another 3 weeks, the same darn problem happened again. This time, they replaced the LCD and the motherboard. Now, 3 weeks later, teh same f'n problem is coming back. When I asked the tech what he thought - he believed it to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the lcd. A friend of mine also has the same problem (not sure if he has had it fixed or not) - has anyone else found this?

This is frankly ridiculous and I am not satisfied talking to a tech in India. I am extremely angry about this and I have am going to make sure that this goes to someone who a) speaks english properly and i can communicate with and b) can actually do something effective to solve this.

I would be happy to hear comments on this issue.

I would like to see pictures of this smiley face...  My old i8000's LCD kept getting marked/scratched by the keyboard.  After several attempts to fix the problem (two new LCD's and one new keyboard), Dell decided back in July that they were better off replacing the whole system.  Now I am the owner of an i8500.  It pays off to get the 3 yr warranty!  Now I need to extend the warranty on my i8500 before it runs out (by default, it is only covered by the remainder of the warranty for my original i8000).

    jr4brown,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

This is not a problem that I have seen before.  You may want to contact Technical Support via email.

Yes!! I have the exact same problem... have had my 300m for about 3 weeks. I thought I was crazy, but I suspect it's a manufacturing flaw. So far I only have a mouth and one eye though :(

I guess it has to be sent back... bummer.

    bye

    Charles

Did you ever resolve this? Ever find out the cause? I can't spare my 300m for service right now but I'm going to have to send it out eventually. I'd like to know what to expect.

    thanks

I have this exact same problem. I have already sent the 300m back once, and after I got it back for 2 weeks, the face re-appeared. Hopefully they can find how to fix this problem soon. Any ideas forum moderators?

Well, I'm sending mine in now... has anyone managed to get this problem fixed once and for all? I'm a bit disturbed by the comments from those who have had this repaired multiple times.

    thanks

Just to update the thread... Dell replaced my 300m's LCD and had it back to me in about 2 days. Now let's hope the problem does not occur again. Anyone else still having trouble?

Dell has passed this problem onto a "Level III Technician," (whatever that means) and has sinced replaced my entire laptop. They do not know what the problem is yet, but considering that replacing the screen has proven ineffective, it is possibly a hardware malfunction in the motherboard. Out of the 4 people I know who own the 300m, 3 have experienced this smiley face problem.

Hrrrm that's not very encouraging news... oh well. So far mine is working without any smiley face yet. I haven't used it much though. I will have to see how it goes after classes start again.

I'm just wondering why there aren't more posts on the forum about this if so many people are having the problem.

BTW Did replacing the whole laptop fix the problem for you?
