8200 wont turn on -- num/scroll/caps code?
Hey folks like many others here my 8200 refuses to turn on--on either the ac adapter or battery when I hit the power button the light only comes on for a brief moment and then goes back off; no computer action or anything...
While I've reviewed the posts on what others have done, I'm not clear on how to see what code (if any) my computer is giving me for what might be the problem. What do I press/do to make the caps, num, and scroll lock buttons do their little code thing? And what did the different combinations mean again?
I thought I was just supposed to hold down the power button, but all that does is make the power light go on for another second after it goes off...
Thx
Jason
My 8200 is almost three years old and I've already gone through one motherboard...
Running XP home on a 1.7 mhz processor, 1 gb of ram, lowly 64mb video

Hi,
Are you able to test the memory in another machine ?
Regards Chris
These are the error codes. As soon as you power on the system, look at the lock lights and observe.
1-1-1 (flashing) Processor Not Seated
0-0-1 Processor Failure
0-1-0 Motherboard Failure
0-1-1 Memory FailureThere is a steps that may sound silly but works a lot of times. Remove adapter and battery (both). Press and hold down the power button for 30 secs and then let go. Try restarting only on battery ans check.Reseating all parts that you can also helps if this doesn't work. (HDD, CD, MiniPCI)Removing and replacing parts- jfountai --
I have an 8200 and I have seen the same problem several times. Solution (at least in my case): flip it over, remove the panel that holds the memory, take the memory sticks out, do the hokey pokey, put them back in, and fire it up. The 3-light error code must have something to do with memory but I can't find that answer anywhere.
Just out of curiosity ... does your 8200 sometimes run slowly (the System process takes up ~30% of the CPU unnecessarily) when plugged in but fine off the battery? I'm wondering if the 8200 series has power management issues. Both my motherboard and GPU have been fried over the past year and needed to be replaced. Looking for other people with the same experience.
lerxst - Well something's definitely way wrong cuz taking the ram out didn't do a darn thing... for that matter neither did taking out the hard drive, batteries, or dvd drive (though i didn't expect it would...). I'm not even able to get any kind of an error code, cuz my comp won't start up at all! The only thing i get is my power light for like two seconds and then nothing. I did notice that my ac adapter light also comes on when i plug it in... that's more than it did the last time my mboard quit out on my last march.you know my comp has run slow from time to time, and i did notice that the system process took up alot of my juice, though i never thought to check if it had anything to do with the ac adapter/battery combination--guess if i get this thing fixed i can check it out ;-Pthx for the responses folksJ

Hi,
I would reseat the memory first, and also try with an external monitor. The fault could be memory, Mbd, Cpu or the Video card. With some luck a reseat will fix it.
