Blank Screen at bootup

My Inspirion 9300 has been working flawlessly and then a few days ago the screen went blank.  It shows nothing at bootup and remains blank.

Measures taken:

(1) Connected an external monitor.  It shows everything as it is supposed to.

(2) Opened the Hinge Cover and checked Display Cable Connector.  I used the pull-up tab to lift it and reseated it again.  But this doesnt solve the problem.

Searched this Dell forum and  the only other possibility is that backlight inside the Screen may be dead.  However, for my case, the screen doesnt get dimmer and dimmer gradually over a period of time.  It just went blank all of a sudden in one mornin.  So, could it be the backlight is dead?  How hard is it to replace the backlight and how much does it cost usually as the warranty is over and so I have to send to a local shop for repair.

What else can it be if it is not the backlight?  Any idea?

Thanks.

If it's not the backlight, it's the inverter.  Cost to repair either should run about $100-150, labor included.

Great job trying again, but it still may be the inverter. It may be starting to go out.

I am having this exact problem on my Inspiron 1505...totally blank screen at start-up but everything is fine with an external monitor. The computer has been working beautifully for about 2 years, and my warranty is expired.

painterhenry (or someone), can you talk me through what to do to try to fix this?

If I can't do it myself, would somewhere like a Best Buy be able to do it, or where should I even take it?

Thanks for any help anyone can give me...my whole life is on this computer!
