What model system and what OS are you running?
Aren't there any configuration options, to disable it from running at startup?
What updates did you install - or at least try to install, specifically. That'll help narrow down what it might be?
inspiron 1501 win xp professional
i tried to install the following updates from the support center:
SIGMATEL-Driver applies to: STAC 92XX C-major hd audio
Dell BIOS applies to Insperion 1501 system BIOS
Dell aplication applies to support center
TSST- firmware applies to TS-L462D 24x slim CDRW/DVD
Ricoh-Driver applies to R5C832
Broadcom- diagnostics utility applies to 440x 10/100 integrated controler
Broadcom - driver applies to 440x 10/100 integrated controler
Dell-driver applies to wireless 1490 dual-band WLAN Minicard
all that happens is whenever i restart my computer the file just opens i dont click on anything. in the file there are folders named AOLIcon, BAE, Dell wireless WLAN card, launcher and quickset. after i tried to install the updates listed above i got the following icons on my desktop:
BIOS.BAK
PHLASH
MFC42.DLL
PHLASHLC.DLL
MSVCRT.DLL
PHLASH txt doccument
FLASHABL.ROM
MSVCP60.DLL
PHLASHNT
WINPHLASH
WINPHLASH help file

One way to try and get out of this is to try system restore to a date before all this happened. Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System restore. That hopefully will undo at least the driver updates and whatever program installed that's causing the popup.
As far as all the icons go - if system restore doesn't work, then the only thing for it is to manually clean it up. That list looks like the BIOS update just extracted its files all over your desktop instead of into a folder. If it took correctly, when you reboot the latest version number will show up on the initial Dell boot screen and you can just remove all those files.
I think the main problem is trying to download/update/install way too many things at one time. In all likelihood you don't really need all those updates - there's no need to fix something that isn't broken. If you do decide to update, only do 1 at a time, follow the instructions to install it, reboot, and make sure everything's working before doing the next one. Especially since I see firmware updates in there. Firmware and BIOS updates aren't the same as drivers - they alter the actual internal programming of the hardware, and if that goes wrong for some reason you could actually ruin the hardware.
As for the folder pop-up: Latest program to do this was an earlier version of the Dell Support Center itself, but it could be another Dell program that starts up when the computer does. Honestly I'd just get rid of the Dell Support Center in Add/Remove programs - general consensus here is that it's not worth the hassle and doesn't do anything you can't do yourself with only a little effort.
