Dell Studio 17 Processor Failure - Venting
Just hung up from my third one hour session with Dell technical support and felt the need to vent and maybe this might get the attention of someone at Dell who can do more than give me the standard call center dialog. A little history might help set the scene.....I purchased not one but two Studio 17 laptops as Christmas gifts. The first one suffered a processor failure on Dec 28th. Spoke with Dell tech support and made arrangements to have a replacement unit shipped. On Dec 29th the second laptop failed with the same processor failure. Spent over an hour on the web based tech support chat session....since these have slot drives we were unable to eject the CD that was now locked in the laptop. Since Dell will not issue a credit for the CD their only option was to offer to dispatch a tech to repair just to get the CD out.....this unit will also be replaced. So, around rolls Dec 30 and no calls from anyone at Dell to setup an appointment to service the systems. After holding again to speak with someone I was kindly informed that it would be Monday Jan 4 before a tech would be able to fix the unit. I questioned what Dell considered next business day, weekend and after-hours support as is clearly defined in the purchase agreement. I was simply informed that due to the holiday weekend Monday was the best they could do. Then after being transferred to a 'manager' who had the Dell tech support speak (script) down so well I actually had to ask him in a loud voice to 'shut up'. I explained that Jan 2nd and 3rd were not holidays and clearly fell under the support terms for these units....still the best I was offered was that they could only offer a promise on Monday but they would do everything they could to get someone out on Sat or Sun. I've never been so disappointed with customer service in my life..I actually told the person I was speaking to (no I can't spell his name) that if I did not have a tech at my home this weekend they could send someone to pickup the units and refund 110% of my purchase. Right now I'm not sure I could recommend a Dell Studio laptop let alone a Dell device all together. Frustration in a major way. I've read a few of the other posts and found a few other frustration events - did you ever hear anything from Dell other than the scripted (corporate approved) language? Did you issues ever get resolved to your satisfaction? If anyone at Dell reads this who can actually make a difference I would love the opportunity to speak with you.

Your calendar is right they are not business days but my support agreement covers in home nights and weekends and just because they follow the Jan 1st holiday is no excuse that Dell can’t provide weekend coverage. I’m sure the support person who has to take care of this is really grateful to have the position given the current economy. Bottom line - my point is that if Dell is going to sell this level of service then they need to honor it. BTW – I’m on call 24 x 7 x 365 so if needed I would work this weekend.

According to my calendar, the 2nd and 3rd are NOT business days. Are you working this Sunday?
