nvidia laptop errors
Dell has changed the Vostro1710 laptop motherboard with nboard nvidia, heat sink & fan, but I continue to have crashes and overheating. They refuse to provide a motherboard without the faulty nvidia. I offered to downgrade to standard video but they wouldn't agree. What would fix it and how do I get Dell to do it. I am well within an extended warranty.

Dell will not alter an as-shipped configuration -- if you want the Intel board, it'll be at your expense.
Does the video chip fail the diagnostic (F12 at powerup)? If it does, call back and have the board replaced again.
The fault in the chip DOES NOT cause overheating - though overheating can cause the chip to fail. If the system is overheating, something is wrong with the fan, heatsink (dust accumulation) or the way the notebook is being used (NEVER, EVER use it in your lap or on a soft surface!).

Thanks for responding.
I don't use it on soft surfaces and do raise it to improve ventilation.
As I see it, the as-shipped configuration is not "fit for pupose " so they MUST legally solve it, one way or another, without me paying for it.
Has anybody had a solution?
