sim card
I have just purchased a studio 1745 There is a slot near the battery for a sim card. My Vodaphone mobile sim does not work from this although it will work in its dongle from a usb port Do I need soft ware for this to function from the sim card slot?

You need additional hardware - i.e.,a WWAN adapter -- the USB one you have, or if you want an internal one, a compatible internal adapter. The SIM card by itself does nothing - you need the broadband adapter.
