Touchpad Driver Won't Install
In Device Manager, my "mouse" (touchpad) appears as "Unknown Device ... Driver is not installed."
I downloaded the right driver, using my Service Tag as ID. The install errors out, saying, "... the driver installation file is missing a necessary entry ... perhaps it's written for Windows 95...." Of course I checked the readme and it says it's the XP version.
Please.. How can I get my touchpad back?

- Excellent advice, thank you. I hadn't known the driver would be in the add/remove list. I thought it was all done through Device Manager. Once I deleted Synaptics from add/remove, I rebooted and XP found the touchpad and installed the generic driver. Then I was able to reinstall Synaptics from the previously downloaded file. Thanks again!
