Touchpad isn't working

Hi all,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop, 7000 series 7548.

My problem is that occasionally, part or all of the touchpad / mousepad will stop working.  I'm not talking about a small dead spot -- I mean that half of the touchpad, or all of the touchpad, stops working.  (I am sending this message using the touchscreen since my touchpad is completely gone at present.)  I have not noticed any particular pattern; it can happen at any time, including while I am at the computer.  The problem can always be resolved (temporarily) by rebooting the computer.

I got this laptop by exchanging a previous laptop of the same type that had the same problem.  But this new one didn't seem to have the problem until it was too late to exchange.  This makes me think that this problem might be common to this particular model of laptop.

Thanks for any advice.

    I have the same problem.

Did not have at windows 8.1 but after updated to windows 10 it appears randomly.

    Definitely a Dell problem.

Also, when I try to private message "DELL-Robin D" or "DELL-ROBIN D" it says that the recipient is not found.  Thus, I do not know how to private message you.  I was looking under the "Messages" link on the menu bar.  I also tried clicking on your name and going to your home page, but I do not see any link from your home page that allows me to private message you.

When I click on "mice and other pointing devices" in the Device Manager, it lists only one device, called "HID-compliant mouse."  When I try to update the driver, it says "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
